Job Overview:

American Pacific operates a chemical manufacturing facility based on a highly technical electrochemical process. The Electrical Engineer we are seeking will own the entirety of the plant’s high voltage power distribution system and low voltage process control systems. The engineer will report to the plant’s engineering leader, and the position will have direct reports consisting of the operations technology team. Additionally, the engineer will work closely with the plant’s team of maintenance electricians and production operators for continuous improvement initiatives and education. The position requires a continually questioning approach to improve operational effectiveness and consumption efficiency. The company is currently expanding production capacity with significant additions to the electrical infrastructure. The engineer will oversee this expansion work, its effective implementation, and will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all electrical systems and equipment.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience working as an Electrical Engineer, preferably in a chemical, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
  • Demonstrated Supervisory or team-lead experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and control systems, (PLCs, DCS).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the chemical manufacturing industry.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) certification.
  • Experience with energy management and sustainable electrical practices.
  • Experience with High and medium voltage transformers, sub stations, and power distribution.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD) and diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and safety protocols (OSHA, NFPA, NEC).
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities and Ownership:

  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • 4160v power distribution system
    • Multiple onsite 480v PDC and MCC distribution points
    • DC power supplies, rectifiers, and VFDs
    • Instrumentation and DCS (Factory Talk)
    • Oversee and ensure proper operation of electrical systems and equipment, including performing diagnostic testing and troubleshooting electrical malfunctions. Provide technical expertise in solving complex electrical issues to minimize downtime and maintain safety.
      • Harmonics and power factor monitoring and correction
    • Develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs for all electrical systems and components to reduce unplanned shutdowns and extend the life of equipment.
    • Work directly with and educate onsite team of maintenance electricians
  • Team Management:
    • Manage operations technology personnel
    • Educate and guide maintenance electricians and production operators
  • Process Improvement and Growth:
    • Oversee implementation of second 20MVA transformer
    • Evaluate production process for efficiency opportunities
  • Design and Implementation: Develop electrical systems, schematics, and layouts to support chemical manufacturing processes. This includes designing power distribution systems, control systems, and instrumentation for both new installations and upgrades to existing equipment.
  • Project Management: Lead and contribute to capital projects by providing electrical engineering expertise in planning, cost estimation, design, procurement, and installation. Collaborate with other engineering teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all electrical installations and modifications comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company standards for safety, reliability, and energy efficiency. Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain safety and compliance.
  • Control Systems: Design and maintain automation and control systems such as PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems to optimize manufacturing operations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of electrical systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and project documentation. Provide detailed reports on electrical performance, system improvements, and compliance.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned by department manager.
